After playing around most of the day trying to get the tabs working perfectly in IE and FireFox, here is what I have so far for the create article screen... |

can you just release it please as a css driven html interface (all paddings, border, backgrounds done through css) - currently our designers are having some problems skinning your search (and similar) interfaces because most styling is done directly in html code and not through css styles

That is very very nice, Scott. I really like the look of the tabs - is that through use of a third-party product like Infragistics? Or is that all .NET Framework?
Very impressive! |

I'll see what I can do, it's more driven by CSS then the previous screen incarnation though. |

All dhtml, but I am thinking about moving to componentart at some point in the future, depending on the licensing etc.

thx,
it's enough only to move the style settings to a css class (padding, font sizes and such, cellpaddings, cellspacings...)
thnx,

Try this one:-

Doesn't work too great in firefox, so I had to modify a few together to make my own. |

Hey Scott - looks great !!!
Any news on when this and the archive / category mods are going to be shipped ? I've got a site that makes extensive use of News Articles for multi-user content management and I'm having to use various 'work-arounds' for the archive/categories feature - it's due to go live in the next week - just curious if it's worth waiting ?
One other thing that would be really cool, given that the Gallery module sort of does it anyway, would be to specify the size of any associated images for the list view and the article itself - at the moment I'm having to upload a small image to be associated with the article and the 'full' size image for use in the details of the article..... just a thought ;-)
Keep up the great work...
Cheers,
Mark |

Is it possible to make Create Article as a separate module?
This will improve News Article’s flexibility. |

End of the week, as for the image, I need to add a thumbnail token which will thumbnail the main image. (this is on the to-do list)

I have a collection that I have built up over the last few years, some bought, some collected from other systems I have worked on. |

It maybe possible in the future, after the reorganisation though. |

Was this the fix you added for Firefox or was there more?
http://www.developer-x.com/projects/tabs/emails/johnmoney.txt
I was thinking of adding this to one of my websites now and so would be concerned of firefox issues.
Also, in regards to the icons questions (as I was smitten by the slick new looks & graphics myself), I found some free icon links searching for open source icons. This looks like THE BEST place for developers to get free icons under a GPL....

Thanks for the icon links, I ended up just swapping some things around and using my own function:- (so I didn't end up using that solution)
<div id="NewsArticles_SummaryPanel" class="NewsArticles-Tabpanel" style="DISPLAY:none"></div>
<a href="displayTab(0)" id="NewsArticles_SummaryTab"><span>Summary</span></a>
<script language="javascript">
var NewsArticles_Panels = ["NewsArticles_SummaryPanel","NewsArticles_DetailsPanel","NewsArticles_AppearancePanel","NewsArticles_LinkToPanel","NewsArticles_PublishingPanel"]
var NewsArticles_Tabs = ["NewsArticles_SummaryTab","NewsArticles_DetailsTab","NewsArticles_AppearanceTab","NewsArticles_LinkToTab","NewsArticles_PublishingTab"]
function displayTab(panel, clientId)
{
var panels = NewsArticles_Panels;
var tabs = NewsArticles_Tabs;
var current = 0;
var state = "";
var savedPanel = 0;
if (panel == -1)
{
// First time page is loaded, don't
// toggle tab shade
panel = savedPanel;
savedPanel = -1;
}
for (var i = 0; i < panels.length; i++)
{
var currPanel = document.getElementById(panels[i]);
if (currPanel)
{
currPanel.style.display = "none";
if (i != panel)
document.getElementById(tabs[i]).parentNode.className = "";
else
{
if (i == savedPanel)
state = (state == "block" ? "none" : "block" ;
currPanel.style.display = state;
document.getElementById(tabs[i]).parentNode.className = "selected";
current = i;
}
}
}
}
</script> |

I'm playing around with those cool tabs in a custom module now and thought you may have already encountered this (perhaps with the file picker) and might be able to help.
If you do a postback on a tab other than the first one, how can you get the page to return that tab as active rather than have the page return and reshow the first tab?
So for instance in your news articles if you uploaded a new file attachment, how did you get it to stay on the Appearance Tab rather than go back to the first Summary Tab.
Thanks,
Jason |

Ah yes, I had this problem on another system I worked on, I made the tabs literal controls and depending which one you would select would enable that tab. Luckily for news articles there is not much posting back, (well I spoke to soon, the image selection). Thanks for bringing this up ^^ |
